Dead or Alive arose from the ashes of Nightmares In Wax  in may 1980,  and when their ´´I´m Falling´´ single debuted on Inevitable in a 7´´ fold-out sleeve, it sounded unlike anything else on the Liverpool scene.  The nearest precedent most people could come up with was The Doors,  a comparison for  which Pete had an easy answer,  ´´Liverpool bands got compared to The Doors because there was a Doors obsession in Liverpool´´
Penny Kiley of Melody Maker was so moved by DeadOr Alive´ live show that she was quick to describe Pete as ´´a cross between Bette Midler and Jim Morrison.  He introduces a combination of outrage and arrogance,  camp self-parody and aggression,  ugliness and sex appeal,  and above all drama´´
