Dead or Alive arose from the ashes of Nightmares In Wax in may 1980, and when their ´´I´m Falling´´ single debuted on Inevitable in a 7´´ fold-out sleeve, it sounded unlike anything else on the Liverpool scene. The nearest precedent most people could come up with was The Doors, a comparison for which Pete had an easy answer, ´´Liverpool bands got compared to The Doors because there was a Doors obsession in Liverpool´´ Penny Kiley of Melody Maker was so moved by DeadOr Alive´ live show that she was quick to describe Pete as ´´a cross between Bette Midler and Jim Morrison. He introduces a combination of outrage and arrogance, camp self-parody and aggression, ugliness and sex appeal, and above all drama´´ |
