OLIVER FROST
BIO
OLIVER FROST studied drama & contemporary dance for 4 yrs in London, before going on to running a gallery café called Citron, in London’s Clerkenwell. Whilst running the café Oliver set up a promotions company called +medikation promotions, and in ‘89 launched and co-promoted his first club +medikation. One of the first of its kind, +medikation took place every Monday morning at Central Station, Kings X. The club became legendary with resident Dj’s Wayne G, Jo Public, Rolf, & Lord K, and guest slots from Rich B, Jon Dennis and many others. Oliver then went on to promote several other underground clubs including Fuct & Playground at Fluid. In 2001 Oliver turned back to art and began his BA in fine art- Sculpture, at Chelsea School of Art & Design. Never one to do things by the book Oliver rebelled against the traditional form of sculpture, instead covering himself in large quantities of his own blood, and turning him self in to living sculpture. Other works include performances about his experience of being a victim of severe bullying during secondary school.
Oliver’s performances are often hard hitting, challenging and controversial, and something that still remains true of his work today. Oliver has performed widely across the UK at many places including The Royal Opera House, The Queen Elizabeth Hall, the ICA & Manchester Mardi Gras to name just a few, as well as performing internationally with his long term friend and collaborator Oreet Ashery. Oliver has produced many large-scale works including V2H, a nightclub installation that was created on an entire rooftop in Russell Square, and was accompanied by a sound track by DJ Alan X. Other works include a 3year project entitled Conformity is the biggest killer, stages 1-6, with a finale at Chelsea Gallery were he created a black house outside on the forecourt, filled it with 3000 flies, and 3000 maggots, and stood inside it wearing a ball gown made out of animal hearts & lungs.
Oliver’s frustration with gallery system in the UK, and lack of programming for challenging and edgier performance art for emerging artists has led him to curate his own annual interdisciplinary art event. Last years event ACT ART 2 attracted audiences upwards of 1500, and featured works from emerging and established names in the art world.
Now in it 3rd year ACT ART 3 Public Disordar is being staged on the 11th November 2005, this time in a different context, in an old public house, instead of the gallery environment. This time Oliver is co-curating the event with his partner and fellow performer Marc Massive, whom Oliver met over a year ago now, as well as performing in Marc’s elektro-pop band Massive Ego for much of the last year. Since meeting the pair have also promoted the Friday club night ‘PopCell’, becoming a visible duo on the gay scene due to there extreme looks.
