What's the definition of a PunkPirate?
It's a name that describes many people of my generation who were just a little too young to be 'real' punks or full time SEDITIONARIES poseurs. We had watched the SEX PISTOLS creating CHAOS on tv, and we wanted 'those' clothes. It didn't occur to us that they were designed by 'someone'. And then it was all change, WORLDS END happened. We were a little older, had left school and were wondering what we wanted to do with our lives. And then we knew ...we wanted to be in a band called BOW WOW WOW and wear those 'new' clothes! We scrimped, saved, stole, and raced all the way down the Kings Road, to the WORLDS END. We posed and preened like peacocks. We stood proud in our Apache's. We looked rich in golden brocades. And we hung out in the clubs dressed as modern day pirates ....and some of us put the gold paper from a packet of Benson & Hedges on our teeth and the stripe of Geronimo across our face. Embarrassingly true, but what great days. We were PunkPirates united against the world. White and black, gay and straight, no-one gave a damn. It was only the clothes that mattered. We thought it would always be this great but, the world became bland...all music sounds the same, the clothes are all derivative, and every street looks the same whether it be London, Paris, New York or Tokyo. Its all been done before, and oh so much better.
But one thing unites a gang of us, WORLDS END. Devotees of a world created by Vivienne Westwood & Malcolm McLaren...and a band called BOW WOW WOW
